Today I'm grateful being able to laugh! No matter how bad I feel or tough times are; I'm always able to laugh. During the best and worst times of my life I can say that one of the things I've had is my sense of humor.
When I get nervous I laugh uncontrollably. It used to drive my husband crazy ! We bought a car when our daughter was about 3 months old. I dented it within 2 or 3 weeks of having it. I was trying to tell him what happened but unfortunately I couldn't stop laughing. So I thought I'd show him the dent instead.
Let me just say, when your wife is giggling like a dingy 15 year old and showing you a dent in the front of your 2 week old new car, it doesn't go over well. In fact he thought I was laughing at the fact that I dented the car. It took a couple of days for me to get him to understand that because I was nervous and scared I was giggling and laughing. It's a nervous reaction that I have when I know I'm in big trouble. It was laugh or cry and I hate crying.
The more nerv0us or unsure of the situation that I feel my loved ones are the more I laugh and joke. I want to try to either put them at ease or give them something else to concentrate on. When we found out about the clot in my right femoral-popliteal artery we were not sure what to expect. We honestly didn't know if the doctors were going to be able to save my leg or not. Right away I told Larry, my husband, that if I had to have become and amputee I was going to get a bunch of rub on tattoo's . I needed to replace the ankle tattoo I was going to be losing when they amputated my leg.It made him laugh and took his mind off my surgery for a bit; he knew I was being silly. It took him a few minutes to catch it on to the fact that my ankle tattoo is on my left leg and not my right leg. Needless to say my leg was saved thanks to the fem-pop bypass and my sense of humor and my tattoos are still in tact.
Laughter is the one of the best medicines for me. I feel as long as I retain my sense of humor there is nothing I can't handle. Hearing those close to me laugh with me is even better. That's when I feel the magic really working. I'm not afraid to make fun of myself especially when I am being to serious.
Laughing means I'm having fun and enjoying life. When I'm enjoying life it means I'm living not just existing. Live your live. Laugh and have fun today! Having fun doesn't mean you don't take Lupus seriously. It just means that you choose to do more with your life than worry over something you can't control.
Laughter is a powerful antidote to stress, pain, and conflict. Nothing works faster or more dependably to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh. Humor lightens your burdens, inspires hopes, connects you to others, and keeps you grounded, focused, and alert.
Humor is infectious. The sound of roaring laughter is far more contagious than any cough, sniffle, or sneeze. When laughter is shared, it binds people together and increases happiness and intimacy. Laughter also triggers healthy physical changes in the body. Humor and laughter strengthen your immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect you from the damaging effects of stress. Best of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and easy to use.*
